I’m researching a meeting at the Victoria Rooms, SOuthampton, in March 1870. The meeting was in regard to the extension of the Contagious Diseases acts to Southampton and an Aldermna Stebbings is said to be heckling the speaker (who is in favour of reform). Would this be the same man, do you think?
Hi Dave, I think it’s quite likely that it was Joseph Rankin Stebbing. He did die in 1870 – I’m not sure on the exact date, so you might want to double check that. It certainly does sound like him, heckling at a public meeting – I get the impression that he liked being involved in anything that was going on.

These talks look excellent, it seems as though there could be some nostalgic memories here perfect for the Jubilee. When are you next on the radio so I can tune in?
Hi Liz, thank you for your kind words. I’m going to be on Angel FM this coming tuesday some time after 9.30am.
