Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will host a special ‘mini-Navy Days‘ over the weekend of 5 and 6 May to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War.
HMS Dragon, the fourth brand-new Type 45 Destroyer, and HMS York a Batch 3 Type 42 Destroyer will both be open to visitors from 10am until 3.30pm. Living history group Forces 80 will be wearing naval and Argentinian uniforms and display kit and deactivated weapons from the war, and the Band of HM Royal Marines from HMS Collingwood in Fareham are due to perform in Victory Arena near HMS Victory at 11am and 3pm both days.

Shame there won’t be much more going on for the Falklands 30 thing, but I guess with the cuts and the Olympics operational tempo is ludicrously high at the moment.
I am not surprised really, it isn’t “our” way is it? In some ways we are more cowed than the Germans concerning our history; especially our military history even when we were the ones trespassed against. I want a few more of the new books on the conflict but I am in hurry to get them. By chance I did pick up volume 2 of the official MoD history for the startling price of £25! I am saving that for this coming winter. Lastly I am being choosy with the deluge of TV programmes. Max Hastings is on BBC 4 this week. And the Military Channel has a programme featuring the Red and Green Life Machine with the man himself Rick Jolly.
I am in no hurry……….
