It’s just under three weeks – 20 days, to be exact! – until my first book, ‘Portsmouth’s World War Two Heroes’, is published!
It’s been a long time coming but it’s exciting to know that it’s not far away now. The official publication date is 01 February, apparently the books should materialise sometime later in the month. There should be an official youtube trailer available some time soon too.

It should also be on sale in local bookshops, including the D-Day Museum and Portsmouth City Museum.
If anybody is trying to order from abroad, I have seen it listed on American, Canadian, New Zealand and even Polish websites – let me know and I will try and find you a link.
If anybody would like a signed copy, please let me know and I will see what I can do. I am hoping to have a number of signing events over the next year or so.

Seriously, order a few, autograph ’em, and sell them to your loyal readers here. Heck, you might even charge just a tad bit more for the extra value of your signing!
Of course, we will have to wait for your expiration to realise the REAL value of an autographed copy.

I hope it all goes well. I know you aren’t doing for the money but I hope you make enough at least to take you and she who must be obeyed out for a nice meal.
Once the book is in the shops you should start to schmooze BBC Radio Solent about a programme for Remembrance…….
Hopefully I will at least cover my costs, put it that way. With the cost of research trips to London, copies, reproduction, etc nobody really makes any money out of writing local history. Even with military history, unless you’re Anthony Beever of Stephen Ambrose you’re not going to make your fortune.
Having said that I do have a celebratory dinner with the family planned for shortly after publication.
In a trench, out of mess tins, cooked over a hexamite block I hope. 🙂
I would be perfectly happy with that, but I’m not sure the significant other would be!
To be honest I hate hexamite flavoured food. If I ever rehydrated food in the field and used hexamite I boiled the water in two containers one in side the other as I am certain the blessed stuff can permeate metal.
I had some of the old-style hamburger and beans in the summer when I was camping on Dartmoor. I didn’t think they were too bad, but the tea and milk substitute were awful.
hmmm might be a celebratory cake in the offing 🙂
