URNU first, patrol work a very, very distance second.
As somebody who struggled for 10 years to help fund a Sea Cadet unit I have very mixed feelings about URNUs.
Remember URNUs are about introducing society’s future leaders to the importance of the sea to the UK not for recruiting.
Seems a rather small boat to be “pleasure cruising”. Don’t they have any “tall ships” to do the PR and political schmoozing for them?
They are small. Only enough space for a handful to be out for a night or two. Very minimal accommodation, no storage and only the capacity for a couple of GPMG or maybe a small cannon. Apparently the hulls can take up to 40 knots but the current engines are only 25 knots. Could you run a couple from a Bay Class as a depot ship?
The RN has no tall ships, but a couple of sea training organisations do.
No No No! I can’t stand ‘em…
A couple of P2000s are used patrol duties (see below, but cannot be armed with anything bigger than a GPMG or two…

The only thing they look good for to me is fishing in the Solent. I’ve seen bigger and faster Charter Boats. Or perhaps doing the harbour tours in Pompey.

The P2000 can also be used to simulate a FIAC…
Ahem. ASYQ (Another Stupid Yank Question) – FIAC?
